The Deck:
Cutthroat is played with 2 decks of cards for 3-4 players, and 3 decks of cards for 5+ players. Remove Jokers.
The Card Values:
Aces: 1 Point
2-10: Face Value
Q: 10 Points
J: -2 Points
K: 0 Points
The Deal:
9 cards are dealt to each player facedown in a 3×3 grid.
Starting the Game:
Every player starts by choosing two cards to flip faceup. The player left of the dealer will flip one card faceup, and play will continue around the table.
The Play:
On each player’s turn, they can choose to flip a card from their grid, draw a card from the deck or discard pile. When drawing a new card, the player may choose to replace it with a card in their grid.
When there are three of the same card values in a row left and right, their points cancel out to zero.
When there are three Jacks in a row, their points cancel out to zero, not -6.
How to Win the Game:
The game is over when the first person flips their 9th card face up, at which point each player will take one more turn. The winner is the player with the least points.
